In the process of going ahead, the first thing we need is the courage to die. One should have the courage to die. If he has the courage to die, then he doesn’t need to follow the step by step approach, he can directly jump in. If one does not have the courage to die, then one needs to use methods to build power so that leads towards having the courage to die.
Having an attitude of a burning desire, a fire, a thrust that, “Yes! I will change my life! I will make it happy and joyful!” Or if your goal is to know the truth then have the attitude that “Something could happen at any time and I will know truth!” Having that attitude will change the way of living life, will change how we do things. So it’s very important that we have a burning desire inside of us, what we call “fire in the belly”, that “I want to work on this and I will get this.”We all are seeds. From a seed a tree is created, a seed has the potential to be a tree and a seed has the potential to create an entire jungle. But not all the seeds become a tree and not all the seeds are able to produce a jungle. So we are a seed and we have the possibility to be Ram, to be Krishna, to be Buddha, to be Jesus, to be Mohamed. But the difference is as not every seed becomes a tree, in the same way not every person becomes someone who has known the truth. Because a seed needs mud, water, pressure on it so it can come out and bring out the life in it. Unless we have that burning desire we won’t be able to bring that out. Somebody asked Lord Gautam Buddh, “You keep saying that everybody has the possibility to know truth. If everyone has that then why don’t they know it? Why don’t I know it?” He answered, “Do a survey. Go to this small village and make a list of each person’s name and write what they want in life.” He went and asked everyone. He kept writing, kept writing, kept writing. (Addresses his students) Nobody said what you said is your goal. Mostly people said kids, marriage, generating wealth, having a beautiful wife or husband, having a big house, becoming a minister… In that village nobody said, “I want to know truth. I want to know who I am. From where did I come and to where will I go”.
